Here's an commercial art studio trick: Use rubber cement thinner. It's really benzine, strong stuff, but very fast evaporating. It takes off all the gummy stuff from any price tag or label. Douse it and rub off with a rag or paper towel. I keep mine in an orange cone shaped dispenser which makes it very handy to pick up and use whenever you need it. You can get the thinner and the dispenser at an art supply store. It's safe on practically anything. Even to clean fingerprints off photos.
